Beach House at Schubas (03.26.08)

Well I'm glad that I decided to attend the sold out Beach House show tonight at Schubas, after having some doubts because of being overly tired from a long day of moving some friends into a new house. Anyway, the show was lovely, minus all of the camera flashes, which for once kind of annoyed me, however, I understood that it was necessary because the lights were turned down way low, which was cool though because the band had two disco balls going the whole show. All I know is that I like Beach House a lot and Papercuts were pretty solid as well. The new release, Devotion, is out now via Carpark.

Setlist

01. Wedding Bell
02. You Came To Me
03. Gila
04. Holy Dances

Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends?

The new Coldplay record is now reported to be called, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, definitely not Prospekt, which was rumored before. Here are some track titles: "Lovers In Japan," Strawberry Swing," "Famous Old Painters," "Glass Of Water," "Lost!," Cemeteries Of London," Violet Hill," "Poppy Fields," 42," Yes!," "Leftrightleftrightleft," "Rainy Day," and "Prospekt's March." However, from what I have read today, there will only be 9 tracks at 42 minutes. With my last update, Rolling Stone had mentioned the bold song titles above, plus these: "Death And All His Friends," "Chinese Sleep Chant," "Life In Technicolor," and "Reign Of Love," which makes 9 tracks, so who knows, maybe some have been renamed. All I do know, is I can't wait to hear some new tunes. The record is claimed be out 6/17.

* Album reviews are composed only after a few listens. Yes, opinions may change over time, but most first impressions (un)fortunately seem to hold true. I wish I was creative enough to write a proper review, but I've failed miserably in the past. Here's the next best thing, I hope.

Brett Dennen "She's Mine"

So I've been in a Brett Dennen mood today and you should be too. He's so good. Often mistaken for a twelve-year-old, Brett is actually twenty-eight and has a very soulful voice. He has also toured with John Mayer and Guster. Have a listen and check out his latest release, So Much More, out via Dualtone.

If you are unaware, Ravinia is an outdoor theater/pavilion with a huge lawn area, which is great to sit out on a blanket with some friends, eat, drink, and listen to some great tunes. I'm hoping Madeleine Peyroux comes around, like she has the past two summers, which I unfortunately have missed. Some other acts coming around this year are Sheryl Crow, The Beach Boys, Backstreet Boys, Hootie & the Blowfish, etc.

New Greg Laswell EP

So I have been in a Greg Laswell mood over the last 24 hours and ironically enough, I just read that a new EP, How The Day Sounds, was released yesterday. I don't know about you, but I just find this guys voice extremely soothing. Reminds me a lot of Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies. Anyway, I also just read that a Greg will release a new record on 7/8 via Vanguard.

New Bullets In Madison Record

Bullets In Madison are a band from my hometown and they have a new record, If I Were a Neutron Star (And Other Stories From The Few And Far Between), coming out 3/18. Three new tracks are available for stream on their Myspace. I have a hard time describing bands, but I would definitely say that they are along the lines of a Radiohead/Sigur Rós meets Coldplay. Just an indie band with a very ambient sound. I don't know. Anyway, I have added a few tracks from their 2005 release, Love Is A Noise Or: The Psychic Distance Of American Flesh (And What It Means To Take A DIVE), below, however you are also able to download a ton of other tunes over on their Purevolume page.
