Album Review: Great Lake Swimmers - Lost Channels

Great Lake Swimmers - Lost Channels

01. Palmistry
02. Everything Is Moving So Fast
03. Pulling On A Line
04. Concrete Heart
05. She Comes To Me In Dreams
06. The Chorus In The Underground
07. Singer Castle Bells
08. Stealing Tomorrow
09. Still
10. New Light
11. Rivers Edge
12. Unison Falling Into Harmony

Standout Tracks: Pulling On A Line / Everything Is Moving So Fast / Stealing Tomorrow

Another solid collection of songs from Tony Dekker and company, however, I'm slightly hesitant because this is the most hi-fi I've heard these guys, when I must say that I'm a sucker for the lo-fi. Oh well, it's a necessary progression I suppose. Lost Channels is out today via Nettwerk.

* Album reviews are composed only after a few listens. Yes, opinions may change over time, but most first impressions (un)fortunately seem to hold true. I wish I was creative enough to write a proper review, but I've failed miserably in the past. Here's the next best thing, I hope.

03. Soft Shock
04. Skeletons
05. Dull Life
06. Shame And Fortune
07. Runaway
08. Dragon Queen
09. Hysteric
10. Little Shadow

Standout Tracks: Runaway / Zero / Soft Shock

Wow, this album was definitely a pleasant surprise. I can't believe that I've actually found something to pull me away from the new Grizzly Bear release. It's Blitz! is out today via Interscope.

* Album reviews are composed only after a few listens. Yes, opinions may change over time, but most first impressions (un)fortunately seem to hold true. I wish I was creative enough to write a proper review, but I've failed miserably in the past. Here's the next best thing, I hope.

Album Review: Nathan Xander - The Fear

Nathan Xander - The Fear

01. October
02. Emerald Cities
03. Colors
04. John Wayne
05. True Love Never Did Run Smooth
06. Dark Horses
07. The Alchemist
08. Trial By Fire
09. Martyr's Song
10. A Long One
11. Every Rainy Day

Standout Tracks: Martyr's Song / October / John Wayne

Reminiscent of Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker and early Jason Collett, this current Chicagoan brings a new twist with his alt-country storytelling. My only complaint would be that most of the songs are just a tad too long, but other than that, I'm really diggin' this record. Anyway, The Fear, is out now. Go pick it up, here.

* Album reviews are composed only after a few listens. Yes, opinions may change over time, but most first impressions (fortunately or unfortunately) seem to stick/hold true.

Here We Go Magic on WOXY

So I was hoping to go see Here We Go Magic tonight at the Beat Kitchen; however, since I'm pretty poor, I will not be attending. Luckily I came across this today, where Luke Temple and gang performed a few songs for WOXY (free downloads available). Also, if you have yet to here, Grizzly Bear have asked Here We Go Magic to support them on their upcoming tour, which should be pretty great. Too bad no Chicago gig on that tour, but maybe we can hope for a Pitchfork Fest appearance as well. The self-titled debut, Here We Go Magic, is out now via Western Vinyl.
